Final game layout

I began the layout of my game somewhat like the game "Doodle Jump". There were green blocks that were okay to jump onto and then there were obstacles blocks that you didn't want to hit. You used the keypad arrows to steer the octopus and the space bar to jump. I used a timer block to count down the time that a sprite had left to reach the star. when the sprite hit the star, the level would change. Then the sprite would have different obstacles. I used the "move a certain amount of steps" block a lot and the "when backdrop switches" event a lot as well. When my game began, I didn't know how to switch the background, but I eventually got it. You had to use the "When 0 color touches 0 color). I realized that you had to drag to the sprite to make the color. I thought that overall my game was successful and had very little problems. The only problem that occurred randomly was that the blocks would't return to their original position when I restarted he game.

Other Peoples games

Ashley's sprite maze:

  • There were good, detailed directions
  • Elephant was a hazard :)
  • There were good levels and creative sprites

Helen's mouse game:

  • good game, scoring made sense
  • the backdrop switched as points were scored
  • there was no saying that the game was over
  • Timer was off, but it still worked okay

Kristine's animal click:

  • you would click the animals and get points.
  • got kinda hard after a while because the animals kept moving
  • back drop changed with the animals
  • when you reached 50, the hippo would leave you a message

Final Game: Helping the Octopus

Final game

  How to play the game:
1. Press the green flag to play the game. Make sure to read the instructions that the Octopus gives you. When the timer starts at 10, you may start.
2.Try to avoid the flashing obstacles (blue, wands, orange blocks)
3. Use the space bar to jump onto new blocks, and use the arrows to move left and right, up and down.
4. move to the yellow star before the timer ends. If you don't reach the star before the timer, you have to restart the whole entire game. If that happens, repeat all instructions.
5. If you do get to the star before the timer, wait until the level changes.
6. Immediately when the backdrop changes, start.
7. The sprites may be hidden!

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

BTW, a score wouldn't really work with this type of game, so I adjusted the game so it didn't have one.

Midterm part 1- Final Game Project

My final game project is going to be a jumping game. The game involves a character and different blocks for the character to jump on. There will also be several blocks that go away if you jump on them. I will most likely be using an underwater animal for this game and an underwater background. When the levels change, the background will change with the following sprite. Each time the sprite hits a correct block, the score will go up by one, if the sprite misses a block, the score will go back to zero . The sprite will be given 15 seconds to complete the level. To win each level, you have to touch the star at the top and say, "I WON." There will most likely be 3 levels, and each will get harder as it goes by, with a shorter amount of time. To increase the difficulty, i will make more hiding blocks and obstacles. To beat the game, you muct complete all 3 levels within the time slot and grab the star!
